POSITION SUMMARY:                  

In this position, the employee inspects all in-coming vehicles (such as trucks, cars, buses, etc.) and enters information into the hand-held computers. The employee is responsible for driving the vehicle to the staging area and for loading onto containers/car racks. Vehicles may include cars, trucks and buses. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Minimum one (1) year experience working as a receiving clerk in an industrial environment such as warehouse or marine terminal receiving cargo and/or vehicles.
  • A valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English at a Basic level.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Must possess strong communications skills.  
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Ability to obtain internal forklift certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, as needed.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Ability to work in high paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors and fellow employees.
  • Ability to think logically and make sound decisions.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with vehicle components.
  • Data entry experience.
  • Experience operating a forklift at OSHA standards.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Responsible for receiving transporters and providing assistance during the check-in process.
  • Checks booking number before receiving vehicles and/or cargo to ensure accuracy.
  • Contacts supervisors and/or the Dispatch department to inform and resolve any discrepancies with the booking.
  • Inspects all in-coming vehicles and enters information into the hand-held computers.
  • Records all discrepancies and/or damages on the Vehicle Dock Receipt and hand-held computer.
  • Documents with label date received, booking number, serial number and D/R number.
  • Loads/drives the vehicle into the container/car racks and sets up ramps and straps, which are used to secure the vehicles once in the container/car racks.

 

Secondary

  • Operates a forklift to maneuver inoperable vehicles to the staging areas and setting up ramps. Must be able to perform set up for containers/car racks including setting up racks, opening gates, staging straps, secure cars with straps, prepare for malfunctions of vehicles including dead batteries and/or parts and equipment.
  • Responsible for identifying and placing Tag Flag (color coded) in which they label vehicles by flags for specified location.
  • Must maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The employee is continuously required to walk, grasp, reach forward, talk, hear and use eye-hand coordination.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, twist, pinch, bend forward, and use eye-hand-foot coordination, repetitive wrist motion, finger dexterity.
  • The employee must continuously use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to lift/carry up to 10lbs and push/pull up to 30lbs.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, squat, reach overhead, lift/carry up to 20lbs and use repetitive foot motion.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct supervision form the Vehicle Receiving Supervisor and Team Leader. Does not exercise supervision over any position.

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed primarily in outdoors; exposed to changing weather (temperature & humidity) and outdoor environments, during day and night shifts.
  • The employee continuously works near moving vehicles (cars, trucks, etc).
  • The employee is continuously exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
