POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and performing minor repairs to all refrigerated equipment to ensure peak performance, safety, and longevity of equipment including Gensets which are generators that are attached to reefer containers or chassis and Power Packs which are large generators designed to attach to reefer containers to provide refrigeration wile reefer containers are in storage.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • One (1) year experience working with the maintenance and repair of refrigeration units or possess refrigeration school certification.
  • Knowledge of electrical and refrigeration methods, techniques, and procedures involved in maintenance repairs and replacement.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to obtain internal forklift certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Posses organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors and fellow employees.
  • Ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.

Preferred

  • Experience working with the maintenance and repair of gensets.
  • One (1) year of experience operating a forklift at OSHA standards.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Monitors the temperature of the reefer containers.
  • Performs routine maintenance on the refrigeration units and electrical systems, tagging those that require repair.
  • Washes and cleans the reefer equipment.
  • Drives company truck to perform oil changes on Gensets and power packs throughout the yard.

Secondary

  • Performs weekly inventory of units.
  • Operates forklift to mount, dismount, and transport Gensets and power packs to and from the service area.
  • Maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards.
  • May assist with the coordination of U.S. Customs Agriculture Inspections
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The employee must frequently lift, carry and push up to 10 pounds, pull up to 20 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct supervision from the Sr. Manager of Refrigerated Equipment and Foreman; may assist other Mechanic II employees in the performance of container repairs.  Does not exercise supervision over any position.

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed primarily in the yard; exposed to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity during day and night shifts.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Moderate vibration with use of hydraulic seating system of forklift and use of power tools.
