POSITION SUMMARY:                    

This position is to support the Accounting Supervisor in carrying out the responsibilities of the Accounting department as directed and supervised by them. This position is an entry level position that will have exposure to many different areas within the accounting department. The position’s primary responsibilities are in the assistance of preparing and recording journal entries in several areas, including but not limited to:  General ledger accounting, cash activity, intercompany activities, general and administrative expenses, prepaid and other assets, and various liability and reserve accruals.  This position will also be involved in analyzing the account activity of many of the above listed areas and assisting accounting management with preparing analyses and working on ad hoc projects and other deliverables as necessary.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. REQUIREMENTS & ABILITIES:

  • A minimum of two (2) years as a staff accountant required
  • Work experience at a $50 million revenue (or greater) for profit company is required (government or not-for-profit experience will not be considered).
  • Experience in explaining variances analysis and reconciliation preparation.
  • Experience in intercompanies and bank reconciliations.
  • Working knowledge of US Generally accepted accounting principles required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • Intermediate Computer skills in programs such as MS Word, Excel & Outlook are required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish including both oral and written ability in both languages.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to get along well with diverse personalities is required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to proactively work out problems and seek assistance when necessary.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Prepares and assists during month and month-end close with the recording of intercompany journal entries and intercompanies reconciliations.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations and analysis of each domestic and other assigned accounts.
  • Assists during month and month-end close with the recording of cash related journal entries.
  • Perform research on cash transactions with foreign country personnel.  
  • Daily reconciliation/monitoring of bank accounts to general ledger accounts; investigates and adjusts discrepancies. Including but not limited to recording of bank fees, interests, payroll brokerage and subsidiaries check report.
  • Preparation and distribution of daily bank reports by countries. Assist Domestic and International Credit & Collection departments in ACH/Wires transfer confirmation process.
  • Enters various Account Receivable adjustments into the accounting system.
  • Works with cash requests from the Port of Miami for vessel representation and other payments.
  • Prepares deposit detail spreadsheet for unidentified customers, works with the research and identification process and sends results to Seaboard Corporation (“Corporate”) Treasury department.
  • Receives outgoing wire transfers detail report on a daily basis and enters into the Accounting system.
  • Processing Cash to Master Requests from different Ports including requesting funds from banks and follow up with proper documentation. Also, responsible for entering the over/short Cash to Master for Subsidiaries.
  • Reclassification and distribution of bank transactions into corresponding entities.
  • Prepare and post journal entries related to Salaries & Benefits expense and accruals.
  • Prepare and analyze accounts reconciliations related to balance sheet accounts assigned.
  • Prepare reports detailing monthly general and administrative expenses and explaining variations.
  • Prepares monthly accruals, allocations and associated schedules related to general and administrative expenses and cost of sale accounts.
  • Compiles data for the preparation and analysis of reports.
  • Comply with internal controls to ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley.
  • Perform self-review of work to identify problems and solutions.

Secondary

  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.
  • Work with Outport personnel on all above areas as necessary.
  • Perform ad hoc and special projects/analysis as needed.
  • Assist in general bookkeeping and cash receipt applications for Seaboard Solutions, a subsidiary of Seaboard Marine.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use his/her fingers.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Indoors office.  Exposed to controlled temperature and office environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Reports directly to the Accounting Supervisor and indirectly reports to the Accounting Manager.
