POSITION SUMMARY:

Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and recommend changes in programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. Assist in the development, implementation and compliance of all safety policies/procedures in accordance with state and federal regulations. Assist in the development and implementation of procedures within the organization that effectively control accident and health exposures in the workplace. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  •  Minimum of at least one (1) year experience and working knowledge of OSHA
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Clean, valid driver’s license
  • Advanced PC skills in programs such as MS Word, Access, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Ability to  create charts, formulas and diverse reports
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 60 days of employment.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills. Must be able to prioritize
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Ability to deal effectively with public. Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision. Strong self-initiative

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of HAZMAT, DOT, and Worker’s Compensation
  • One (1) years safety working experience at industrial site (maritime industry exposure a plus)
  • Associates degree in Safety-related field preferred.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Ensure that accident/incident investigations are completed in a timely manner and that preventive actions have been implemented
  • Conduct and write all the investigative reports.
  • Insure we have all the documentation required for investigation purposes.
  • Maintain all records required to demonstrate compliance with all state and federal laws and programs in the areas of safety and environment such as MSDS, Fire Extinguishers and hydrant inspections, Inspection reports, etc.
  • Assess and recommend any development in the health and safety field that may have application to the company’s operations
  • Orders any Safety supplies and pays invoices accordingly.
  • Research and recommends changes in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as technology and regulations changes
  • Revises, and maintains all procedure and policy manuals up to date as developed by Department
  • Assist in claims research, processing, and collection of documentation related to claims
  • Special projects
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Secondary

  • Address any safety infractions with both employees and managers. Issue Observation Notices
  • Maintain communication with any governmental regulatory agencies as needed
  • Work closely with Safety Field team members to coordinate Safety projects
  • Coordinate, attend and document Safety Committee meetings (Employees and Managers meetings)
  • Maintain all filing up to date

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Report safety hazards
  • Immediately report incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage
  • Wear protective PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as instructed or necessary
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules
  • Refuse any unsafe task or operation
  • Participate in safety meetings and training
  • Be constantly aware of their personal safety and that of their coworkers

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct supervision the Safety and Security Supervisor. Does not exercise supervision over any other position.

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Indoors office. Exposed to controlled temperature and office environment
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet
