POSITION SUMMARY:                  

 

Position entails analyzing most cost-effective inland moves utilizing the most reliable resources at its disposal. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Two (2) years’ experience handling logistical administration of rail moves and local/long haul trucking moves.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic to Intermediate computer skills in programs such as MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be able to communicate at an intermediate to advanced level in English.
  • Must be able to communicate at a basic to intermediate level in Spanish.
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to meet and deal effectively with the customers, executives and the general public.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.  Must be able to prioritize and be detail oriented.
  • Ability to think logically and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, multitask and function effectively under pressure and time constraints.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, holidays and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work one weekend (Saturday and Sunday) every 4-5 weeks.
  • Must be able to work in fast paced environment and meet deadlines.

Preferred

  • Experience with AS400 system.
  • Two (2) year College Degree
  • Demonstrate geographical knowledge of the US.
  • Two (2) years of experience in ocean logistics or shipping
  • Knowledge of export logistics terminology (Vessel Bookings / INCO terms)

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Working with approved intermodal carriers to determine availability and obtain freight rates.
  • Ensuring timely pick up of cargo
  • Dispatching notifications to suppliers and intermodal carriers
  • Ensure most cost-effective rate is used to move cargo inland from most reliable sources.
  • Ensuring timely updates of shipment details and updating system timely to meet documentation deadlines
  • Evaluating loads to determine need for overweight permits and filing paperwork to obtain permits when necessary
  • Ensure to move cargo legally based on DOT regulations with regards to hours, HAZ and/or weight restrictions.
  • Quote inland moves to commercial divisions providing support to customer service and pricing employees dealing with customers for NB and SB moves. 
  • Proactively identify gaps and contribute in the process of establishing controls resulting in zero compliance issues
  • Coordinate the reposition empty equipment.
  • Re-route cargo due to vessel changes via most cost-effective routing option.
  • Develop an understanding of customer’s needs, and take actions to ensure that such needs are met.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities in order to analyze most cost-effective resources.
  • Ability to evaluate and move cargo legally based on DOT regulations with regards to hours, HAZ and/or weight restrictions.
  • Ability to prepare a variety of reports.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment within established systems and procedures.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and fellow employees.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from departmental managers or subdivisions regarding inland move rates and details.
  • Ability to work as a team player.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to think logically and follow procedures and instructions.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct supervision from the Intermodal Manager.  Does not exercise supervision over any other position.

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Indoors office; exposed to controlled temperature and office environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually busy (many phones in open cubicles).
