POSITION SUMMARY:                  

This position, under the direction of the Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day accounting, month end closing and financial preparation and reporting of a SML subsidiary. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting.
  • Five (5) years’ experience within the accounting area, including at least three (3) years of experience in a large global or mid-sized accounting firm within the assurance/audit practice; or five (5) years of experience with larger companies (greater than $250 million in revenue).
  • Significant experience and knowledge of U.S. GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and related auditing and reporting.
  • Intermediate computer skills in programs such as MS Word, Excel & Outlook is required. Required Excel skills include being able to perform pivot and lookup tables, utilize financial functions, and create linked workbooks that are organized to facilitate easy completion and review while maintaining necessary controls over spreadsheets.
  • Fluency in English at an Advanced level both verbal and written.
  • Fluency in Spanish at an Intermediate level both verbal and written.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to get along well with diverse personalities.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to travel to foreign subsidiaries as needed.
  • Ability to prepare a variety of financial statements, reports, and analysis.
  • Ability to examine and verify financial documents and reports.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment within established systems and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate (read and write) effectively in a business environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.

Preferred

  • CPA license.
  • Accounting experience within a complex entity with a large number of subsidiaries.
  • Experience with consolidations
  • Experience in the transportation industry within the past two (2) years.

 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Performs daily general accounting functions for the subsidiary, including maintaining general ledger to assure accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles and procedures. 
  • Prepares general ledger journal entries, and records transactions and accruals.
  • Completes monthly reconciliations for various accounts.
  • Ensures all intercompany reconciliations between the subsidiary and the parent and other subsidiaries/third parties are completed timely. 
  • Responsible for timely closing of the subsidiary’s books according to established timelines.
  • In charge of the subsidiary’s financial statement preparation and reporting.
  • Submits intercompany eliminations for the purpose of financial statements consolidation
  • Prepares analyses of revenues and expenses in connection with the month end close.
  • Assists in the preparation of the budgeting and forecasting of the subsidiary’s financial results.
  • Responsible for the analysis and preparation of the management discussion and analysis compiled quarterly for our corporate office as it relates to the subsidiary.

Secondary

  • Monitor established internal controls to ensure proper compliance.
  • Assists in completion of financial audits and internal audits as required.
  • Prepares other financial and statistical reports as required.
  • Ability to analyze existing accounting processes to improve efficiency and streamline processes
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives direct supervision from the Accounting Manager and indirect supervision from the Director of Accounting.  Does not exercise supervision over any U.S. based position.

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Indoors office.  Exposed to controlled temperature and office environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
